Commenting

Reading and reacting

Sort the conversation, follow threads, react to comments and pages, and use the comment menu.

Sort the conversation

Use Order by above the comments:

  • Top (the default): the comments with the most reactions first.
  • Newest first
  • Oldest first

Load more at the bottom brings in more comments, until you see All comments loaded.

A comment the site's team pinned always comes first, marked Pinned.

Follow threads

Replies sit under the comment they answer. See replies opens them. Long threads can be collapsed and expanded again, so you can skip a side conversation and come back to it later.

React to comments

Select the heart on a comment to react, and again to take it back. To use another emoji, select Add reaction (the smiley) and pick one; the site's own emojis are listed too. Each reaction shows how many people chose it, and a comment can collect up to 10 different emojis.

The author is notified when someone gives their comment a heart.

React to the page

Some sites show a reaction bar above the comments, such as What did you think? Pick one emoji for the page; pick another to change it, or the same one to take it back. Depending on the site, you may be able to react without signing in.

The comment menu

Every comment has an options menu (the ⋯ button):

  • Copy comment id, Copy user id, Copy username: useful when you write to a site's moderators about a specific comment or person.
  • Edit and Delete: on your own comments only. See Writing comments.

To point someone straight to a comment, add ?crowment_cid= and the comment's ID to the page address, for example https://example.com/article?crowment_cid=COMMENT_ID. The page opens with that comment's thread loaded.
