Commenting

Writing comments

Write, format and illustrate your comments, reply to others, and edit or delete what you posted.

Write a comment

Sign in, type in the comment box and select the send button. A comment can be 3 to 510 characters long.

Depending on the site, your comment may be published at once or wait for review first. See Why a comment waits or disappears.

Format your text

The toolbar under the comment box adds formatting for you. You can also type it yourself:

StyleTypeResult
Bold**text**text
Italic*text*text
Quote> text at the start of a linean indented quote
Spoiler||text||hidden until a reader clicks it
Mention@usernamehighlights the person you mention
Emoji: followed by a nameopens a list of matching emojis, including the site's own

Web addresses become links by themselves. When someone opens a link to another site from a comment, they are asked to confirm first.

Add images

Select Add Image in the toolbar to attach pictures:

  • up to 4 images per comment,
  • up to 5 MB each.

Readers can click an image to see it larger. Some sites turn images off; then the button does not appear.

To hide an image as a spoiler, select Mark as Spoiler (the eye) on its preview before you send. Readers see it blurred until they click it.

Add GIFs

Select GIF in the toolbar, search, and pick one. A GIF counts as one of your 4 images. GIF search is powered by KLIPY. If a site turns images off, GIFs are off too.

Your meme library

Keep your favorite images in My Memes (the melting smiley in the toolbar) and post them in one click, without uploading them again.

  • Your library holds up to 10 images and follows you to every site that uses Crowment.
  • Select + to add images: PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP. Large pictures are resized for you. Animated memes keep their animation if they are at most 800 × 800 and 1 MB.
  • Pick a meme to attach it. Like a GIF, it counts as one of your 4 images, and you can still mark it as a spoiler.
  • To make room, select Edit and tap the memes to remove. Comments you already posted keep their memes.

If a site turns images off, the button does not appear.

Reply

Select Reply under a comment to answer it. Your reply appears under that comment, and its author is notified.

Edit or delete your comment

Open the options menu of your own comment (the ⋯ button) and choose Edit or Delete. Deleting asks you to confirm and cannot be undone. If others have replied, the conversation below stays and your comment is shown as deleted.

If sending fails

If your connection drops, the comment shows Failed to send. Choose Retry to send it again or Discard to drop it.

When you cannot post

  • "This page is currently closed to new comments." The site has paused new comments. You can still read the conversation.
  • "We are currently under maintenance. Comment posting is paused." Crowment is being updated; try again a little later.
  • Your comments do not appear, or you cannot post at all. You may have reached a posting limit, or the site's moderators may have stopped you commenting there. See Why a comment waits or disappears.
