Banning commenters

Stop someone commenting on your widget, optionally remove everything they wrote, and lift the ban later.

Rejecting deals with one comment. A ban deals with the person: a banned reader can no longer comment on your widget. Owners, admins and moderators can ban.

A ban applies to one widget only. The same person can still comment on other sites that use Crowment, and on your other widgets.

Ban a reader

  1. In Comments & Moderation, open one of their comments.
  2. Select Ban User in the toolbar (or press B), or the button in the Trust profile card.
  3. Choose a reason: Inappropriate Content, Harassment, Hate Speech, Trolling or Other.
  4. Decide whether to switch on Remove all previous comments of this user.
  5. Confirm with Ban User.
Remove all previous comments permanently deletes every comment the person has posted on this widget, not just the one you opened. It cannot be undone. Leave it off if their earlier comments were fine.

Without that option, their existing comments stay as they are. You can still reject them one by one.

See and lift bans

Site Console → your widget → Banned Commenters lists everyone banned from the widget, with when and why. Search by name or username.

  • Unban lets the person comment again. Their removed comments do not come back.
  • After unbanning, Ban on the same row bans them again with the same reason.

You can also lift a ban from Comments & Moderation: on a banned author's comment, the toolbar shows Remove Ban (B).
