Reactions and emoji

Your own custom emojis, the page reaction bar, and which pages get the most reactions.

Readers can react to every comment with an emoji; the heart always comes first, like the old like button. Your widget → Reactions adds two things on top: your own emojis and a reaction bar for the page itself. Owners and admins can open it.

Custom emojis

Your custom emojis appear in the emoji picker. Readers use them in comments as :name: and as reactions.

To add one, enter a Name, choose the image and select Add emoji:

  • Name: lowercase letters, digits and _, starting with a letter, 2 to 32 characters.
  • Image: PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 512 KB. It is shown at 128 × 128.
  • Animated GIF or WebP must already be 128 × 128 and 256 KB or smaller.

How many you can add depends on your plan:

PlanCustom emojis per widget
Free5
Starter25
Growth50
Scale100
Business250

Crowment's own emojis are available on every widget and do not count toward this limit.

Deleting an emoji also removes the reactions given with it. Where it was typed in a comment, :name: stays as plain text.

Page reaction bar

The bar sits above the comments and asks readers What did you think? Each reader picks one emoji per page and can change it later.

  • Show the bar: turns it on for this widget.
  • Signed-out readers: lets readers react without signing in. Turn it off if you see vote stuffing.
  • Emojis: choose 1 to 8, in the order the bar shows them. Your custom emojis can be used too.

Select Save to apply.

Most reacted pages

Most reacted pages lists where your page reaction bar gets the most taps, so you can see which pages your readers respond to.

GIFs, memes and spoilers

Readers can add GIFs from the toolbar and hide text or images as spoilers. See Writing comments. GIFs follow your widget's image setting: if images are off, the GIF button is hidden too.

Readers can also keep up to 10 favorite images in their own meme library and post them in one click. Memes follow the same image setting, and they do not count toward your media storage: a meme posted a hundred times is stored once, in the reader's library.
